Charles "Skip" Smithson has been a presence in the North Country as a mandolin and guitar instrumentalist for the last twenty years.  He is originally from the NY/ NJ Metro area, where he observed and absorbed a melting pot of musical styles and influences.  Playing various instruments (woodwinds, drums) through his academic years, he settled on guitar and mandolin.  Moving to the Plattsburgh area in the late 70's, he found a community of encouraging musicians to perform with.  Skip has performed and recorded with various prominent area artists such as blues finger-style guitarist/vocalist Joan Crane and Bluegrass veteran Doug Knight in the band Mardi Gras.  Since then, he has enjoyed taking his Telecaster out of the closet and dusting it off to play with Zip City.
